Greg Sampson Portrait

Greg Sampson, PhD, recently joined the Texas Education Agency (TEA) as the Executive Director in the Student Assessment Division. Sampson is a career educator with 15 years of experience in pK-12.  He began his career working in special education in Western Oregon.

An interest in both educational diagnostics and applied data analysis led him to pursue more training in curriculum, instruction and assessment.  Sampson’s primary professional interests are the ways in which educators use assessment data to inform instruction and promote student learning.  He is passionate about applying the best methods in both research and project management to pK-12 assessment.

In addition to his background in large scale assessment and research, Greg has also served as a department chair in a teacher preparation program and as a senior administrator in a large urban school district.

He completed his PhD at Oregon State University and has several years of experience conducting applied psychometric research to support learning.  Greg routinely presents at academic and professional conferences, trainings, and workshops.  When he is not working, he can be found spending time with his family, traveling, and listening to good music!
