Patrick R. Lowenthal of Boise State University
Patrick R. Lowenthal, Ph.D., is an assistant professor in the Department of Educational Technology, where he teaches master’s and doctoral level students in a fully online graduate program. Before moving to Idaho, Patrick worked as an Academic Technology Coordinator at the University of Colorado Denver as well an Assistant Professor at Regis University, where he began teaching online in 2003. Patrick is interested in problems of practice with teaching and learning online. He researches how faculty and students communicate using emerging technologies and specifically focuses on issues of presence, identity, and community online.
Shannon Riggs of Oregon State University
Shannon Riggs holds a master’s degree in Professional Writing, and began her career in higher education teaching writing in face-to-face, hybrid, and online modalities. A passion for online education and course design led to opportunities in faculty development and support, and then to instructional design. Shannon has been working in online higher education since 2001 and currently leads a highly creative team of instructional designers, trainers, and media developers as the Ecampus Director of Course Development and Training at Oregon State University.
